VCI stands for Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor and means corrosion protection from the steam phase.
The chemical agent volatilises from the carrier material (film, paper or dispenser) and settles in form of a molecule on the metal surface to be protected inside the packaging. The agent also reaches places which are difficult to access and even penetrates hollow spaces, drillings, internal threads, notches, etc. This protective coat serves as a barrier layer to protect from humidity, salts, dirt, oxygen and other media which facilitate corrosion.
After removing the VCI-products, the VCI-film completely volatilises from the packaging.
